Our next guest of You Can Do It column is Nurlan Kisykov, who successfully took part in reality show “Dance, Dance” at one of Kazakh TV channels, lost more than 30 kg and agreed to give us a short interview.

A: Hello, Nurlan. Please tell us about yourself.

N: My name is Nurlan Kisykov. I am 27. Married. I have 2 beautiful daughters. I work as a news reporter on various TV channels, also work as a showman and host various events.  Back in university I studied banking.

A: When did you start feeling yourself as being overweight? 

N: I began to feel it right after the marriage. I was 23, and was about 76kg. Right after the wedding I started to gain the weight very fast, and at the age of 27 I was already 130kg. Then I lost the weight until 111kg, and then it was very hard to lose any weight at all. To lose that weight I had to stop eating and walk a lot for long distance. And during 9 months I have lost this small weight.

However, only reality show “Dance, Dance” has become for me the starting point, and during 2.5 months I lost 34 kg, and now my weight is 76.5kg. It is hard to believe, but the result was seen to the whole country live on the television. This was only thanks to healthy dining, doing sports and dancing.

A: 34kg – It is unbelievable! It is a great result! You should be proud of yourself! Was overweight a reason for some uncomfortable situations in your life?  

N: There were almost no funny stories to tell apart, that I was always thought as of much older man, than I was. Heavy weight was bringing me discomfort at markets and stores, where as soon as you enter it, sales managers tell you that they do not have such sizes. Thus I had to wear the clothes for much older men, since there are just no normal stylish clothes for large sizes. I had 56th size. It is only after 2.5 months, I began to wear 48-50 size.

A: Did someone motivate you to lower the weight? How did you start thinking of starting the new life? 

N: I was motivating myself. In particular, at that time I was motivated by the wish to become famous. That was the only reason why I have come to the project. Now, certainly, I understand, that there was something more to that, I had some voice inside telling me that losing weight is important and I need to become normal, if I may call it so, again. My life has tremendously changed after the show. People now recognize me on the streets, invite to the weight losing seminars, and to act in soap operas and movies.

A: What did you start from? Were there any breaks in diet? 

N: Since I was on a special diet, there were no breaks in diet. There were 12 of us who were doing all the same. In order to lose a lot of weight there are certainly some efforts needed. It is both sport and diet. Personally I had 40 minutes of intensive exercise (race track), 2 hours were devoted to dancing (with breaks to have something to drink), and certainly the diet itself.

 
A: Please tell us about basics of your diet. 
N: To eat 5 times a day with daily maximum of 1000 calories.
 
A: What is your average day schedule and must have product on the table?
N: I have breakfast at 8am, at 11 I again have something to eat, at 1pm I have lunch, at 4 pm I will eat again, at 6pm I have dinner, at 8pm I go to sports, at 10pm I usually drink a glass of fat free kefir. Must have product – fruits.
 
A: So, what was your weight, and what is the result, and during what period?
N: I was weighing 110.5kg, became 76.5 in 2.5 months.
 
A: Is it realistic to lose a lot of weight and feel yourself healthy? 
N: Yes, it is. I have lost the weight, and can tell that I do feel myself very well and very healthy. Both heartbeating and pulse became much better too.
 
A: Does it mean that overweight is the issue which shall be the area of concern not for women only? 
N: Issue of having extra weight is the problem of the whole nation - regardless of whether it is a man or a woman. And it is needed to start right now, not putting everything for tomorrow. Certainly, having will power is important. In this regard I see the importance and huge role of such projects as DiningSmart is. Do not stop its development, since such projects can help real people to struggle with real problems.
