DS CLUB: Lactose intolerance and almond cocktails

Our second meeting was held in Vino da Puri restaurant, the member of DiningSmart, club of best socially responsible dining places. Everyone could try delicious dishes from chef of the restaurant – Ossetian cakes and mouses out of tomato and olives with wonderful tea.



It seems that having spent the 14th of February, everyone were ready for positive emotions which made the meeting even better. 



The topic of the second Club’s meeting was not chosen randomly. Lately, if we speak about the milk, the one can often hear about lactose or milk sugar. Lactose is formed in lacteal glands of mammals, and naturally it can be found only in milk. However, not everyone can absorb lactose well. Lactose intolerance is the problem which has a solution. Gaukhar Datkhabayeva, the executive director of the National Centre of Nutrition, told everyone about the symptoms and reasons of lactose intolerance, products containing lactose, and ways of its treatment. Lactose intolerance often is confused with allergy to the milk, however these are two different diseases.



After the lecture we went to the practical side. Alima, DiningSmart staff and author of Limonka’s notes blog, told us what activated almond is and offered our guests to try it and make the almond milk themselves, which is the alternative to those who is intolerant to lactose. It turned out that most of our guests thought that almond milk is simply a milk with blended almonds. However, as we know, almond milk is a mixture of water and almond which make the delicious drink of creamy color in blender.





Moreover, almond has been chosen as a basis for our drink not because we like it. Healthy benefits of almond include its activity in bones health, strengthening the vision and successful fight with the cold. All our guests could try the almond milk and cocktails made with addition of fruits, coriander and species.

Galina, the representative of Panasonic, has provided the detailed instructions to everyone on how to work with blender and other equipment produced by Panasonic. The activity of Panasonic is directed to the creation of new ideas which improve life and make it more comfortable, safe and interesting; therefore DiningSmart is always glad and ready to cooperate with companies sharing the vision and philosophy. All kitchen equipment of Panasonic is produced without plastic, is environmentally safe and stimulates cooking of healthy and delicious dishes.





Participants of the training were inspired by possibilities of Panasonic products and started to make the almond milk. Three teams made up their own recipes and started making cocktails —

1. Team «38 parrots» made cocktails «Monkey’s joy»: 1 banana, 2 dates, 1 tea-spoon of organic cacao, cinnamon, almond milk;
2. Team «Academic sweet-tooth» made «Paradise joy» cocktail: 1/3 tea spoon of organic cacao, 1 tea spoon of honey, 1 banana, almond milk.
3. Team «Marsh-mallow» with «Honey smoothie» cocktail: 1 banana, 1.5 tea spoon of honey, 1 tea spoon of organic cacao and almond milk.

In the end everyone could purchase the raw almond which is different from fried one and is very rarely sold in our markets, and marzipan sweets made out of almond from our partners.
