Celiac disease is one of the chronic diseases of a thin bowel wherein a man has an intolerance of an albumen (gluten) contained in cereal cultures. The illness is mostly observed in child's age because symptoms are most shown during this period.

The illness has 5 forms:
  • Typical form. With a predominance of symptoms on the part of the digestive tract: the liquid frequent loose stools; abdominal distention; the presence of mucus in the stool, weight loss; intolerance to dairy products - abdominal distention, loose stools, abdominal pain.
  • Atypical form. Oligosymptomatic or with a prevalence of symptoms from other organs or systems: fatigue, depression, decreased hemoglobin level, decreased physical activity, pale skin; tendency to bruise (on the elbows, knees, shoulders, abdomen); short stature; bone pain, and constipation.)
  • Hidden form. Most often asymptomatic. Rarely occur: periodic abdominal distention; a tendency to the appearance of loose stool;
  • Latent form. Symptoms almost entirely absent;
  • Refractory form:
    • loose stools;
    • abdominal distention;
    • the presence of mucus in the stool;
    • weight loss;
    • intolerance to dairy products - bloating, loose stools, abdominal pain;
    • positive laboratory findings;
    • lack of improvement in compliance with gluten-free diet.

  Celiac disease is often called "the great mime," because it is very successfully hidden under the mask of other different diseases.

The mainstay of treatment - lifelong adherence to a gluten-free diet.
