Chia seeds

Chia seeds
Author: DiningSmart

Chia seeds have long gained popularity among fans of good nutrition and are now considered one of the healthiest products on the planet. Want to know why? DiningSmart team is ready to answer all your questions

VK Facebook Twitter

Homeland of the White Chia, or Salvia Spanish, is Guatemala, Central and South Mexico. This annual herb with white or purple flowers was an important tribal cultivation of the Aztecs and Maya. These ancient people added Chia seeds to food, squeezed oil and used it to make medicine.  Maya ate the seeds before battle, (from the Mayan language "chia" is translated as "strength") as it gave their warriors strength and energy due to the high content of nutrients.

Since the seeds of this "miracle plant" are a natural source of vitamins and minerals, they greatly benefit our health and immune system.

Firstly, Chia seeds contain high amounts of fiber (as much as 10 grams per 2 tablespoons), which helps cleanse the body, normalizes the work of intestines and lowers cholesterol levels.

Second, Chia seeds are also rich in fatty alpha-linolenic Omega-3 acid. There is twice more of Omega -3 in 2 tablespoons of Chia seeds than in 100 grams of salmon. Omega-3 acid prevents the development of cardio - vascular diseases, suppresses inflammation, improves skin, hair and nails.

Also, Chia seeds contain a lot of antioxidants, which safeguard the health of cells, preventing their damage in our body, maintaining our beauty and youth, boosting our energy and increasing the resistance to infections.

Furthermore, Chia seeds are rich in calcium (in 2 tablespoons him 6 times more than a glass of milk), which strengthens our bones, teeth and is a regulator of the nervous system. Moreover, Chia seeds contain high amounts of phosphorus, iron, manganese, magnesium, potassium, zinc, riboflavin, thiamine, niacin and A, B1, B2, B3, E, C vitamins.

Summing it all up, the use of Chia seeds in your diet:
• Contributes to the health of the whole digestive system;
• Helps you lose weight; and since there is low glycemic index, the feeling of satiety will stay with you for a long time (it is not a coincidence that Mayans ate the seeds before the fight!);
• Improves and supports the work of the cardio - vascular system;
• Strengthens teeth and bones (thanks to the high amounts of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus);
• Boosts energy and improves concentration (yes, all because of the various vitamins);
• Lowers cholesterol level and helps to reduce an arthritis pain;
• Lowers blood pressure;
• Stabilizes blood sugar levels;
• Provides healthy hair, clean face and strong nails;
• Helps to improve overall health (immune system will thank you!)

However, no matter how many benefits Chia seeds have, we must not forget that this product, like any other, has its own precautions and contraindications. It is necessary to stop the use of Chia seeds if there were signs of an allergic reaction (diarrhea, difficulty in breathing, skin rash). Also, their use is not recommended:
• During pregnancy and breastfeeding;
• If you experience low blood pressure;
• If you have prostate cancer;
• If you have tendency to flatulence (for example, if there is a swelling after eating cabbage);
• While taking aspirin and anticoagulants;

If none of the contraindications apply, you are free to start incorporating Chia seeds into your diet. Before use, they are typically soaked in water for 10 minutes or allowed to stand overnight. Chia seeds have a neutral taste, so it is easy to start adding them to your daily soups, salads, cereals, pastries, sauces and smoothies.

Also, Chia seeds are a perfect egg substitute in baking. To replace 1 egg, you will need 1 teaspoon of Chia seeds and 3 tablespoons of water (let it brew for 15 minutes).

Chia seeds - is a unique product that captured close attention and love of adherents of a healthy diet, vegetarians and vegans for its beneficial properties and positive effect on the body.
