Spicy Cake Buns

2 1/2 c Unsifted all-purpose flour 1/2 ts Baking powder 1/2 ts Baking soda 1/2 ts Salt 1/2 ts Ground cinnamon 1/4 ts Ground cloves 1/4 ts Ground ginger 1/4 c Granulated sugar 1/2 c Packed light brown sugar 1/2 c Vegetable shortening 1 lg Egg 1 c Buttermilk 1/2 c Raisins 3 tb Granulated sugar for the top Adjust the oven rack to the lower third of the oven. Sift the dry ingredients (except the brown sugar) into a large bowl. Drop the batter by the heaping tablespoonful onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake about 15 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown. Serve warm or at room temperature. —– |
